Captain
Dennis Chadwick of Core Sound Kayaks & Touring Co. provides
a unique opportunity for those who often go boating with family
and friends and are never given the chance to operate the boat
or have never been taught the basics of marine navigation.
Regardless of your past experience with boating, Captain Chadwick
will provide you with the skills needed to maneuver from dock
to sea, or anywhere in between.
At
times it can be intimidating when asked to steer, depending
on the circumstances, but with the basic skills, anyone can
come away confident in their ability to handle a boat. And by
the end of the lesson, there is a good chance that you will
have more knowledge of navigational rules than the owner of
the boat!
This is a great course for women that desire the knowledge to
navigate a boat.

Captain
Dennis Chadwick, while in the US Coast Guard, went to the Quartermaster
School in Newport, R.I. in 1970. This is the US Navy and Coast
Guard school for the navigation rate. The next three years,
Dennis spent aboard Coast Guard cutters between Key West and
Cape Cod. After the service, he spent 20 years with the NC Ferry
Division, and operated as captain on the ferries between Cedar
Island and Ocracoke, NC. He now operates a small tour boat in
the Harkers Island area.

Basic
kayak instructions are given with each tour, regardless of experience.
For those with little or no paddle experience, we provide private
lessons in a protected, shallow and secluded environment in
order for you to be completely relaxed.
This lack of boating traffic is due to the shallow water, both
of which are enhancements to being at ease while practicing
your skills paddling.
We recommend making a reservation for lessons.
